The truth behind the poster

“Nose: Counts the sheep. And the kids.”
Despite the name, the Australian Shepherd was developed on ranches in the American West to herd livestock all day. That drive is still there: Aussies need one to two hours of exercise plus training or puzzle games every day, or they start herding children, cars and other pets. Many carry the MDR1 gene, which makes some common medicines dangerous for them, so a simple DNA test and telling your vet can prevent a serious reaction. Brush the double coat weekly, more during shedding season.
